Dental Check-Up & Teeth Cleaning
At Melrose Park Dental Surgery we believe prevention is better than cure, so we focus on education and awareness to help clients understand the importance of good dental habits. Booking a check-up and clean with a dentist every six months is a great way to stay on top of your oral health and identify any potential issues before they develop into larger problems.
Gentle & Thorough Examination
When we examine your mouth, we look at both your teeth and gums to make sure there are no early signs of disease. If it’s the first time we’ve seen you, we may need to take x-rays so we can see inside and in between your teeth to get a complete picture of your oral health. We’ll talk you through the whole process and help keep your teeth strong and healthy.
Teeth Cleaning
After we’ve completed your check-up, we’ll deep clean and polish your teeth to leave your mouth feeling sparkling clean and fresh. The first part of the deep clean process is called a scale. Here we use a special ultra-sonic scaler to gently remove any plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth. This is followed by a gentle polish using a soft rubber brush that removes stains and shines the teeth for a great-looking smile.
Scale & Clean
Regular scale and clean treatments are a great way to stay on top of your dental health as they have been proven to help prevent gum disease and halitosis (bad breath) along with a range of other dental diseases. Dental Fillings
A filling protects teeth that have already been damaged from sensitivity or further decay. Before we start your filling, we’ll gently numb your mouth and make you nice and comfortable. Next we’ll carefully remove any decay and old broken fillings before we give your tooth a good clean. Finally, we’ll rebuild the tooth using a suitable filler to restore it to its original appearance and function. By clearing the decay and sealing it with a filling, we protect the tooth from further damage.
Types Of Dental Filling
We offer a range of different types of fillings. Our friendly dentists can help and advise you on the best type of filling to suit your needs. Materials for fillings can include tooth-coloured materials like composite resin, glass ionomer, or porcelain. Alternatively, amalgam and sometimes gold may be used. Emergency Tooth Extractions
The experienced dentists at Melrose Park Dental & Implant Centre specialise in same-day and emergency tooth extractions. If you wish, we will try to save or repair your tooth instead of removing it. However, some teeth may be too badly decayed or damaged to save.
Tooth Extraction Professionals
If we do need to remove a tooth, we’ll talk you through the whole process and make it as quick and painless as possible. Some tooth extractions like wisdom teeth require more time and careful planning but either way, we’ll make the whole process as comfortable and easy as we can.
No matter whether it’s an emergency tooth extraction, tooth decay, overcrowding or impaction our dentists have removed many teeth over the years, so you know you are in caring, experienced and capable hands.
Root Canal
Root canal therapy is a treatment that is performed to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. Teeth can become infected due to trauma, decay, deep fillings, or cracked/chipped teeth. Unfortunately, once the nerve inside the tooth is involved, the toothache can be very painful.
Initial Examination
A dental examination with x-rays will quickly reveal nerve damage and confirm the diagnosis. When nerves are infected the only way to save the tooth is to remove the pulp (which contains the nerves, tissue and blood cells) inside the root. This is called a root canal. There are two parts to a root canal treatment.
Clearing The Root Canal
Clearing the root canal involves making a small hole in the top of the tooth and gently removing all of the dead and infected tissue deep inside the root. Once all the dead nerves and tissue is removed, the tooth is left completely hollow. It is then thoroughly cleaned and flushed with antibiotics to kill the infection before being sealed with a temporary filling.
Filling The Root Canal
Once the infection has cleared, the temporary filling will be removed and the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned, shaped and disinfected. The root canal is then filled with a special compound and sealed, enabling you to keep your tooth and enjoy your smile.
Is A Root Canal Painful?
The toothache is more painful than the root canal treatment itself. Our gentle dentists will talk you through the whole process and numb your tooth so you don’t feel the root canal treatment. Once the root canal has been cleared, most people find the pain starts to subside very quickly.
Dentures
Dentures are a cost-effective way to replace multiple missing teeth and create a natural-looking smile. They are often used to fill in the gaps created by decayed, damaged or accidental loss of teeth. Our experienced dentists can fit you for full or partial dentures depending on how many teeth you need to replace.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are a great way to replace one or a few missing teeth if you still have plenty of healthy teeth in the upper or lower jaw. We’ll take an impression of your mouth and create a metal or acrylic plate with replica teeth and gums that are colour matched to your existing teeth. The partial dentures are then clipped onto your remaining teeth to naturally fill any gaps and create a full smile.
Full Dentures
Full dentures are used to replace a full set of teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They are custom-made to fit your mouth. We offer a range of full dentures to suit your requirements.
Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures are made before the teeth are extracted and can be fitted as soon as the teeth have been removed – so you’ll always have functioning teeth even during the healing period.
Conventional / Complete Dentures
Complete or conventional dentures are made after your teeth have been extracted and the gums have completely healed which tends to take between four to six weeks. Waiting for the gums to heal before making dentures ensures a secure and comfortable fit.
Fixed Dentures
With all the advances in technology, our dentists can also create fixed dentures also known as implant-supported, snap-in, or all-on-4 dentures. These dentures use dental implants to firmly secure the dentures in place, offering improved stability and ease of use.

Snoring happens when the soft tissues in your throat become very relaxed as you sleep. As you inhale and exhale breaths, the air passes over the soft tissues causing them to vibrate and create a hoarse sound. Most people snore occasionally, but for some, snoring is a loud chronic condition that can be a frustration for others who share your home and maybe a sign of OSA – Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

Obstructive sleep apnoea is characterised by loud snoring followed by periods of silence where the breathing slows or stops, resulting in the sufferer waking and gasping for air. If you or your partner are chronic snorers, suffer from uneven breathing or gasping during the night and regularly wake up with a headache or dry sore throat, we recommend you see your doctor who can refer you to a sleep specialist for tests.
Snoring Mouthguard
Whilst chronic cases of sleep apnoea may require a CPAP machine (continuous positive airway pressure) or surgery, many OSA sufferers can be helped by wearing a special dental mouthguard at night.
